Itinerary

Delhi, officially known as the National Capital Territory of Delhi (NCT), is the capital of India. It is a major hub for politics, culture, and commerce. The city has a rich history, with landmarks dating back to the Mughal and British eras. Delhi is divided into two main parts: Old Delhi, known for its historical significance and bustling markets, and New Delhi, the modern city housing government institutions and upscale areas. It has a diverse population, a mix of languages, and is famous for its food, festivals, and vibrant culture.

Upon arrival at Delhi airport, you will be warmly welcomed with traditional Mauli and greeted by your representative, who will escort you to your hotel. Transfer to the hotel and check-in.

Drive to the Shekhawati region: the region of Rajasthan nicknamed “the open-air art gallery of Rajasthan.” Lunch enroute.  Transfer to hotel and check-in. Later departure for Mandawa.

It’s in these villages, surrounded by sand dunes, that you’ll find the havelis, the homes of the rich merchants who once made their living from the camel trade between India and Pakistan, small palaces with walls adorned with painted frescoes, veritable works of illumination. Havelis are houses built by prosperous merchants. They are covered in frescoes. On average, these murals date from the 19th century.

Optional Tour: Visit a villager’s house: Experience the heart of local life by spending time with a welcoming family who will greet you with open arms and genuine hospitality. Step into their daily routine, learn about their customs, and take part in simple yet meaningful traditions that have been passed down through generations. One of the highlights of this visit is the preparation of Kulhad chai—a spiced, milky tea served in traditional clay cups. We then visit Fort Junnagarh, a fortress built in the 16th century and housing various palaces and temples. It is a maze of corridors, staircases and inner courtyards. You can visit: the coronation hall, the Palace of mirrors, the Maharajah’s chamber, the weapons museum, which also contains elephant pods, the conference hall with a silver throne, as well as the first fakirs’ nail boards. Then a “Heritage Walk” through the old town to explore its narrow streets and take the opportunity to visit some old havelis.

Enjoy a tuk-tuk ride through Bikaner’s local market, where you’ll discover the vibrant bustle of stalls brimming with fresh produce, aromatic spices and colourful handicrafts, while soaking up the warm interactions with the vendors and the unique ambience that characterizes this cultural destination.

Visiting the Bara Bagh Cenotaphs at sunset offers a serene experience as the golden light highlights the intricate sandstone structures. The peaceful desert surroundings and dramatic sunset make it a memorable and beautiful moment.

In the evening, enjoy a puppet show: Rajasthani puppetry, or Kathputli, is one of the most cherished and vibrant forms of traditional entertainment in the region. This centuries-old art form brings to life folklore, local legends, and historical tales through intricately crafted string puppets. Performed with lively music and dramatic narration, these shows captivate audiences of all ages. The craft is primarily preserved by the Bhat community—originally agricultural workers—who have dedicated themselves to puppeteering for generations.

Nestled at the foot of an enormous dark red sandstone fortress, where the forces of many conquerors have been worn down, JODHPUR, also known as the “Blue City”, appears like a comforting oasis to the traveller who has just crossed the Thar Desert. The old city is surrounded by a wall with seven gates.

Check-in at the hotel and lunch. Late afternoon is free to enjoy the swimming pool.

Optional tour: the culinary trail (between Jaisalmer and Jodhpur): Our plant-based culinary menu consists of a 7-course meal reserved in advance, which is an amalgam of art, freshness and flavour. We take the hyperlocal and seasonal approach to the next level, bringing your table to the farm — over 90% of the produce is harvested fresh from our farm itself, having seen the sun and the earth and never a refrigerated truck!  The menu is determined by the availability of produce in the fields and the number of diners on a given day. For the diners, it remains a blind menu. However, we can accommodate various dietary restrictions and must be informed of these when the reservation is made.

Visit Mehrangarh Fort, with its soaring arcades, which contain a series of palaces, each decorated with carved stone latticework balconies and mirrored walls. Optional Safari in a Bishnoi village: Jodhpur is a popular tourist destination, with many palaces, forts and temples, but it is the village visits that are the most interesting. 70% of Indians live in villages. 80% of villages have a population of less than 1,000 and each village is made up of a series of hamlets. In all the places we visit, you’ll see real people, real nature and real craftsmen. Bishnoi village. Some use the term Vishnoi, meaning followers of Vishan (the name of Vishnu in the local dialect), while most refer to themselves as Bishnoi.

Optional Vintage Car Ride in Jodhpur with Hotel Drop-Off: Experience the royal charm of Jodhpur with a vintage car ride through the city’s historic streets. Glide past majestic forts, vibrant markets, and regal palaces in a beautifully restored classic car. Departure for RANAKPUR, via roads lined with acacia trees, where you can see norias, pump wells and women walking along the road carrying golden or silver jugs on their heads. You will also discover the great Jain temples, which seem to be hidden away in the Aravelli mountains. A spellbinding charm emanates from this solitary place, and you’ll be amazed and in awe of the sculptures in the various temples. This is one of the most beautiful Jain sanctuaries. 

The most grandiose temple is that dedicated to Adinath, built in 1439.  It is supported by 1,444 marble columns, only one of which is inclined. The marble vaults are chiseled in an extraordinary way and dominate 29 rooms containing Jain saints. 

Lunch and later, drive to UDAIPUR, a city of narrow, lively streets, whitewashed houses and tiny balconies and windows.

Optional Visit to the village of Samal: The excursion to the village of Samal, near Udaipur, is specially designed for those seeking non-touristy sites and unspoilt rural tourism. You will discover the daily life of the villagers, which has not changed much over the centuries. Our village tour gives you a taste of the real India. Explore the picturesque village of Samal, near Ranakpur, which remains rustic and has kept its rural character intact. The walk allows visitors to stretch their legs, interact closely and observe rural life. Part of the proceeds from the walk go towards improving the sanitation and hygiene facilities in the village of Samal.

Optional The Gangaur: Privileged Dinner Cruise (Exclusive for In-House Guests at Taj Lake Palace) offers a truly unique and intimate dining experience. Set aboard the Gangaur, a 150-year-old, hand-oared personal barge once owned by the Maharanas, this exquisite dinner cruise promises a magical evening. The Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur is a stunning 18th-century marble palace located on Lake Pichola. Built in 1746 by Maharana Jagat Singh II, it was originally a royal summer retreat. Now a luxurious Taj hotel, it appears to float on the lake and offers breathtaking views of the Aravalli Hills, City Palace, and Jag Mandir. It’s renowned for its regal architecture, heritage charm, and romantic setting.

You will discover the City Palace, former palace of the Maharaja of UDAIPUR. Built in the 18th century, this palace, part of which is still inhabited by the descendants of the Maharajas of Udaipur, overlooks Lake Pichola. It is a labyrinth of marble halls, decorated salons, courtyards, numerous ceramics and gardens. Visit Sahelion Ki Bari or “Garden of the Damsels”, a superb park with numerous fountains. Visit to a silk painting centre specialising in miniatures.

Lunch in a local restaurant. In the late afternoon, depending on the water level, transfer to the pier and board a boat on Lake Pichola (private basis) to admire the magnificent facade of the Udaipur palace and stop at the island of JAG MANDIR.

Optional Introduction of classical music: Today, you will have the opportunity to experience a captivating performance featuring a variety of traditional musical instruments, including the tabla, santoor, and sitar. A skilled musician will not only play these instruments but also provide a brief introduction to each one, offering insights into their history, construction, and significance within the rich tapestry of South Asian music. This immersive experience will deepen your appreciation for the intricate sounds and rhythms, enriching your understanding of the cultural heritage that these instruments represent.

Optional Traditional Rajasthani Puppet Making: In this hands-on course, you’ll learn to create your own traditional Rajasthani puppet by exploring three key crafts: woodcarving, fabric cutting, and painting. You’ll begin by choosing your puppet’s style, then carve its facial features from a wooden block — the most challenging and rewarding part. After painting and drying the face, you’ll move on to crafting the puppet’s padded fabric body and sewing its vibrant clothes. Finally, you’ll assemble all the parts and watch your puppet come to life! Highlights include: meet a local family of puppet makers; enjoy a warm cup of chai; and learn the basics of this timeless folk art.

Optional Cooking Class & Dinner: The experience begins with a visit to a lively vegetable market where you’ll learn about and handpick fresh produce. Afterward, you’ll be welcomed with traditional Indian tea and snacks before diving into an interactive kitchen activity that includes washing, chopping, and preparing ingredients. Under the guidance of an expert, you’ll enjoy a hands-on cooking session where you can actively participate. Drive to Jojawar. It is a small town in Rajasthan’s Pali district, known for its scenic Aravalli hills, heritage havelis like Rawla Jojawar, and vibrant rural culture. It’s a peaceful getaway offering village tours, jeep safaris, and a glimpse into traditional Rajasthani life.

It is a beautiful heritage hotel in the town of Jojawar, Rajasthan. Once a royal mansion of the local nobility, it has been restored into a charming stay that blends traditional Rajasthani architecture with modern comforts.

You’ll take a local train from the 1930s and embark on a two-hour journey through rolling countryside and local villages. It’s a great way to meet the locals while admiring scenes of Indian village life.  On the way, lunch and a visit to this major pilgrimage site dedicated to the god Brahma. Pushkar Lake is considered sacred. 

Jaipur – The vibrant capital of Rajasthan owes its nickname of “pink city” to the pink paint that covers the buildings of the old town. Built on the bed of a dry lake in an arid landscape, the city is surrounded by bare hills, topped by fortresses and crenellated ramparts. Check-in at the hotel.

Rambagh Palace, located in Jaipur, India, was originally built in 1835 as a garden house and later transformed into a royal residence by Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II in the 1920s. It was converted into a luxury hotel in 1957 under the Taj Hotels group. Known for its Mughal and Rajput architectural blend, it offers opulent accommodations, royal interiors, and stunning gardens, making it a popular tourist destination.

Visit the splendid Amber Fort, majestically overlooking Maota Lake, and enjoy a scenic jeep ride up the winding path to the entrance—offering a comfortable and ethical alternative to the traditional elephant ride. Once inside the fort, explore its stunning blend of Hindu and Mughal architecture, with intricately decorated halls.

Lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, stroll through the “pink city”, so full of life. In the streets, cows, elephants, bicycles and taxis all meet with a loud honk. You will pass by the famous Hawa Mahal (house of the wind) and later visit the City Palace and the Jantar Mantar observatory.

An e-rickshaw ride through Jaipur’s old market, the bazaars of Jaipur are legendary. In 1729, Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II sent letters to famous trading houses from all over India, inviting them to set up shop in Jaipur. They were given prime locations, free land and concessions on taxes. Situated on important trade routes, Jaipur quickly became a major centre for commerce and trade, home to a large number of artisans and merchants.

Optional The Elephant Experience: Enjoy a heartwarming, ethical encounter with elephants in a peaceful village setting in the Aravalli Mountains. This gentle, no-ride experience allows you to walk alongside these majestic animals, visit their shelter, meet their caretakers, and even feed them treats like bananas or freshly baked loaves. Learn their unique sign language, give a calming dry rub, and witness their playful side during a splash in their water feature—a truly memorable experience for any wildlife enthusiast.

Optional Discover Jaipur Street food: Discover India’s other cultures in the footsteps of Jaipur through food and your taste buds. An unknown experience that takes you away from the mainstream of Jaipur. The activity is unique because you will be able to understand the history and culture of the migrants from the north-east. The activity is designed to give you a taste of the food and culture that is hidden from the public. The activity focuses on storytelling through the consumption of food and ingredients. Different types of street food are on offer. The streets of Jaipur are all about food. So, we’ve selected a few good, safe and delicious local addresses for taste explorers.

Depart for Agra, on the way to Agra, visit Fatehpur Sikri, the magnificent walled ghost town.

Lunch in a local restaurant. Continue to Agra. Agra is a historic city in Uttar Pradesh, India, located on the banks of the Yamuna River. It’s world-famous for the Taj Mahal, a symbol of love and one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Agra was an important city during the Mughal Empire, with other key attractions like the Agra Fort, Fatehpur Sikri, and Itimad-ud-Daulah. The city is also known for its Mughlai cuisine, especially petha (a local sweet), and beautiful handicrafts. Check-in at your hotel.

Optional 1-hour yoga session: Yoga is an ancient practice that originated in India and is rooted in Indian philosophy. It was originally a spiritual discipline aimed at connecting the mind, body, and spirit. Over time, yoga has become popular worldwide as a way to improve physical health, reduce stress, and promote mental well-being. While modern yoga often focuses on poses and breathing, it still carries elements of its spiritual roots.

Morning visit to the famous Taj Mahal at sunrise. It was built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. It took 22 years to complete this magnificent mausoleum dedicated to love. After an unforgettable few hours, return to the hotel for breakfast. 

Later on, visit the Red Fort, whose military might not be doubted. It was the residence of the Mughal emperors. Each emperor left his mark: the red sandstone of Akbar and Jahangir, the white marble of Shah Jahan. The fort stands on the banks of the Yamuna, surrounded by a wall 20 to 33 metres high and 2,500 metres in perimeter.  Lunch at a local restaurant.

The walk also provides an opportunity to view the Taj Mahal from unique perspectives, all while supporting the community and promoting sustainable tourism in Agra.

Optional:  Esphahan – Delectable Mughal cuisine in an authentic ambience (only for in-house guests): Esphahan is our demur, specialist tandoor dining space. Live traditional music filters through a mosaic of candlelit tables where you can enjoy recipes passed down from the Mughal Emperors’ kitchens, complimented by soft Indian flat breads. The restaurant has a smart casual dress code and welcomes children above the.

Optional Agra Beyond Taj – Cycling tour: Not really a sightseeing tour, a cycling tour of Agra helps you discover the daily lives of people in their streets and bazaars. Participants learn about the daily lives of people, old history, current events and see some really cool places not even mentioned in most tourist guidebooks. Normally these tours operate early in the morning when the traffic is light.

Transfer to the airport for your return flight to onward destination.
